In the field of machine tool processing, the tool magazine in a CNC machine tool is the device that stores and manages cutting tools. The tool magazine typically consists of a motor drive and control system that enables automatic tool changing and improves the machine tool’s machining efficiency. Therefore, when a tool magazine malfunction is detected, it should be repaired or the damaged parts replaced promptly to ensure the machine tool’s normal operation. Below are some common CNC machine tool magazine malfunctions and their troubleshooting methods, compiled by the editor.
01
Severe impact during the tool magazine swing-in and swing-out
Causes:
1. Incorrect one-way throttle valve adjustment
2. Buffer not set properly
3. Incorrect damping
4. Possible misalignment.
Troubleshooting methods:
1. Readjust the position of the speed control throttle valve to ensure a suitable movement speed.
2. Adjust the buffer to ensure proper buffering when the tool magazine reaches its final position;
3. Adjust the damping to ensure a suitable speed when the tool magazine reaches its final position;
4. Readjust the alignment.
02
The tool magazine sometimes fails to swing into/out of position, and the position indicator light does not illuminate.
Possible causes:
1. The home position signal X1000.6 and the position indicator X1000.7 may be malfunctioning in their home and spindle positions. The magnetic switch may be loose due to vibration in the tool magazine.
2. There may be a problem with the tool magazine alignment.
Troubleshooting:
1. Adjust or tighten the magnetic switch. Confirm home and spindle signals are normal.
2. Readjust the alignment.
03
The swing tool magazine does not move, sometimes only swinging in one direction.
Possible causes:
1. Check solenoid valve voltages for swing; valves could malfunction or leak.
2. Ensure the fuse on the relay board functions correctly.
3. Inspect for obstructions on the mechanism.
Troubleshooting Methods:
1. Replace the solenoid valve.
2. Replace the fuse if it is damaged.
3. Readjust any jammed parts of the mechanism.
04
When the tool magazine is in the spindle position, the center of the tool holder is not concentric with the spindle taper hole.
Cause of Fault:
Check whether the position has shifted and whether a readjustment is needed.
Troubleshooting Method:
Move the tool magazine to the tool-changing position, loosen the nut on the piston rod of the swing cylinder, and rotate the piston rod to change the left-right position of the tool magazine relative to the spindle. There are two adjusting screws on the upper front of the tool magazine. Loosen the nut and rotate the two adjusting screws to change the front-back position of the tool magazine relative to the spindle.
