The Less-Traveled Path to Better Optimized Milling | Cnc Machined Part

The ‘Metrology and Quality Assurance zone’, located within Hall 6, will be home to Renishaw’s largest stand (stand D48). Here, visitors will be able to see Renishaw’s REVO 5-axis measurement system in action and discover how it delivers high performance multi-dimensional inspection, including surface finish analysis. To showcase the REVO system’s latest blade measurement capabilities, there will be a demonstration of an aerospace component being inspected on a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). Visitors will discover how the REVO system automates the part inspection process on a single, multi-sensor platform, and will learn how it is being used across industries where the highly accurate, but rapid, measurement of different forms and features are essential requirements.

Like other metals, aluminum cans aren’t fetching a great price right now. You used to be able to get at least 50 cents a pound, Bartz said.

An MPP six-pallet changer paired with a Mazak Variaxis i-600 five-axis VMC, for example, uses 29 percent less floor space than a six-pallet linear-type system while providing the same capacity. Compared with a 12-pallet system, the MPP reduces floor space requirements by 44 percent. And when used with a Mazak Variaxis i-700 five-axis VMC, a six-pallet MPP is 44 percent smaller than a six-pallet linearly arranged system, and the MPP’s 12-and 18-pallet systems need less than half the space.

Methods Machine Tools Inc., a Sudbury-based supplier of precision machine tools and automation, has announced the opening of its new Precision Center in Acton. The facility was built for customers who need the ultimate in tight tolerance test cuts, according to the company. The center is the first of its kind in North America for precision machining where customers can conveniently test and prove out challenging parts, the company added. The center will enable manufacturers to arrive at the most accurate and efficient machining solutions for complex components, saving them costly trial and error in their operations, according to Methods Machine. For more information, contact Cathy Lambert at clambert@methodsmachine.com.

The sliced file is then sent to the machine to be printed. Depending on the size and geometry of the die component, builds can take anywhere from hours to a few days to complete. As previously mentioned, 3D printers can run unattended, so components often are printed overnight or on the weekend. The washer stamping die in Figure 2 was produced in about four days.

First, Lyons told me that the company is installing its second Production System at a Fortune 500 company this month, and that millions of parts for use cases have been completed on the printer, including a drill bit that’s saved Milwaukee Tool a lot of money. Additionally, Desktop Metal announced during RAPID that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Indo-MIM, the world’s largest supplier of Metal Injection Molding (MIM) precision-engineered products. Together, the two plan to accelerate the adoption of metal 3D printing around the world, and Indo-MIM will soon install the DM Production System at its Texas facility.

Blow molding is a manufacturing process that is used to create hollow plastic parts (such as water bottles) by inflating a heated plastic tube until it fills a mold and forms the desired shape. The raw material in this process is a thermoplastic in the form of small pellets or granules, which is first melted and formed into a hollow tube, called the parison. Lastly, after the part has cooled, the mold halves are separated and the part is ejected. As the diameter of a mold increases, the corners and areas with the thinnest walls have close tolerance. This refers to how an object will have physical barriers in its material strength and geometry, thus having a threshold for firmness.

MADDURY SOMAYAZULU: Diamond is the hardest material known to mankind. And when you squeeze something between it, the diamonds hopefully don’t shatter. And you can subject the materials to immensely high pressures.

In the meantime, interchangeability went viral, so to speak. Firearms, locks, hardware, watches and more were soon being produced using the same principle. In Connecticut, the chief watch company was Waterbury Watch Co., later known as Timex. Nowadays, of course, the idea underlies nearly every manufactured product we use.

The evening events, which took place in the nearby Kursaal in Bern, also provided an opportunity for exchange. While coming together to eat, drink and enjoy an exceptional entertainment program, the participants entered into conversation, crossing national and language boundaries.

The biggest, and best-measured, category of non-standard work is independent contracting (i.e., freelancing or self-employment). The incessant hype around a recent explosion of freelancing that will lead to 30 percent to 40 percent of the U.S. workforce being freelancers was dealt a near-fatal blow when the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) issued data for 2017: Independent contractors made up about 7 percent of employment in 2017, the same as in 1995 and 2005. The BLS data and tax data authoritatively demonstrate that independent contracting has not been wholesale replacing regular (W-2) employment, although an increasing number of people are pursuing part-time activities to supplement the income they earn on their main job.
