"PMI is aerospace precision machining service, specializing in high-tolerance machining for flight critical aerospace parts used to build space flight vehicles by SpaceX and other Department of Defense aerospace contractors," authorities said in a release.

As others have mentioned, automated wheel changing is another grinding game-changer—Schwarzenbach said Rollomatic’s high-speed changers can swap out a wheel pack in five seconds, arbor-to-arbor, and achieve grind-to-grind times of 11 seconds. The benefit goes beyond shorter cycle times, however. “If you have a pack with four wheels on it, the collision potential is higher than one with one or two wheels. This complicates the setup. So, if you can split up a large wheel pack and afford the 11 to 12 seconds of wheel changing time, then that’s the preferred way to go in this day and age.”

The WPIC expects platinum’s surplus to narrow 44% this year to 375,000 ounces, with investment being the main driver. Johnson Matthey is more optimistic, forecasting the market to flip into a 127,000-ounce deficit, also helped my a small recovery in demand from the auto sector.

The disposable microfluidic chamber (fig. S8A) is composed of two layers of PDMS, including a top layer with a microfluidic chamber (height, ~60 μm) and a thin bottom layer (thickness, ~30 μm) for sealing the chamber. The top layer was fabricated through standard soft lithography and mold-replica techniques (fig. S9, A to D). To fabricate the bottom layer, a thin layer of PDMS mixture was coated on a silicon wafer through spin coating (fig. S9E) and then baked at 65°C for 20 min. After that, the top layer was placed on the bottom layer with the open chamber facing downward and baked at 65°C for 40 min to bond the two layers together and seal the chamber (fig. S9F). The sealed chamber was peeled off from the silicon wafer and cut to the desired size for use (fig. S9G).

Smalley started working at PMI on March 6, 2017. One of Smalley’s bosses said Smalley was hired to oversee quality operations and instructed to be a document control manager, the person responsible for overseeing audits. This was required by all parts manufactured for SpaceX, the complaint said. SpaceX’s subcontractor “physically examined the products and certified all processes were properly conducted,” the complaint continued.

When I arrived at the Desktop Metal booth, I immediately noticed the metal 3D printed nametag that Lyons was wearing, which he told me was created on the company’s Studio System.

In the world of Aerospace, Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner contains 30 3D printed parts. Construction of the RAF Eurofighter Typhoon also comprises additive manufacturing, while the USAF and Israeli Air Force also claim to have used the technology.

Not all federal agencies, nor all state labor departments, are bound by the SuperShuttle decision. Several continue to adhere to the ABC test or other, more employee-friendly tests for employee status determinations. For example, in a post-Dynamex case, a California district court ruled that a gig worker for an online food delivery company was likely to succeed on the merits in his claim that he is an employee, based on the ABC test adopted in Dynamex. The issue is currently on appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. At the same time, several state labor agencies have ruled that some gig workers are employees for purposes of state overtime, rest break, workers’ compensation, and other labor laws.

A continuation of theme from the last two years has been the move to simplification of design or purity of mark. This homage to clarity of structure and image from prior generations is proof of designers’ inventive nature as they noodle out solutions rearranging the same geometric parts and pieces that have been in play since Euclid was a tot. Whenever you hear someone express the belief that everything’s been done before, just remind them writers and musicians have been rearranging a handful of notes or letters and rendering new music and books for longer than logos have existed. Our well is nowhere near dry.

"Poor people deserve to prosper too," she said. "So we work on wealth building and wealth retention."
