The company runs high-quality material, and technicians usually don’t need to make any adjustments within the same heat. But between heats, thickness and hardness variations can change the rolling characteristics slightly, which is why technicians follow a procedure with every new material heat. They measure the material thickness, run a test part, and adjust the roll program as necessary. They check the weld integrity and measure the cylinder diameter on a coordinate measuring machine.

Gross: As always, intermodal is a tale of two markets, international and domestic, each accounting for about 50% of the volume by equipment type moving. These two sectors are influenced by different factors. International volume has been adversely affected by the response to tariff actions. This pulled substantial import volume forward into the fourth quarter of 2018 in order to beat the tariffs and the price was being paid in first quarter of 2019. Eventually, the lull will conclude and then we expect things to trend back to normal, certainly by mid-year.

In keeping with the spirit of this landmark gathering, Raphael will address the Coordinate Metrology Society (CMS) at 8:45am on Tuesday, July 23 with a presentation entitled The Future of 3D Metrology. Raphael will draw upon his more than 30 years of experience to cover the metrology field and explore the evolution of 3D measurement solutions, scanning technologies, and digital modeling solutions for the wide range of applications and industries. 

The global digital manufacturer now serves more than 45,000 unique product developers each year across three continents and 60 countries. Over the past 20 years, Protolabs has grown in capabilities with four flagship services and 11 manufacturing technologies, and has added capacity with more than one million square feet of manufacturing space that houses more than 1,000 machines producing nearly four million parts each month, according to the company.

Which advantages do digital solutions bring production machine operators? How must user interfaces be designed, to enable ideal machine operation? And what role can additive manufacturing play in machine construction?

The machines work to full capacity, machining the high-precision extrusion blow molds, which make up 80 percent of Leiss’ production. Their manufacturing processes range from drilling and milling the cooling systems to roughing and finishing. “We benefit from the high stability and accuracy of the machines, which has enabled us to reduce finishing work to a minimum, especially in the field of large molds for long-stroke machines,” said Daniel Leiss, referring to the subsequent polishing of the molds.

In many ways this is light-years away from York’s spinning job shop of the 1940s and 1950s. The spinners decades ago probably couldn’t have imagined the shop’s technology now, not just the rolling, laser welding, and 3D flow forming, but other processes the company has brought in-house as well, including 5-axis laser cutting.

Growing up in San Francisco, Ada was surrounded by a thriving Chinese American community, mostly comprised of immigrant families like hers, which helped her feel more immersed in her culture. Ada, whose parents came from Taishan to California a few years before she was born, started making art from a young age. She remembers stringing together necklaces and bracelets from the bead kits when she was younger.

Deigan, who according to Cunningham is still working with the city on the cleanup project, said in the 2016 report that, “the intended reuse plan for the subject property, as described in the 2003 Waukegan Master Plan, is to turn the former industrial property into residential neighborhoods, possibly including condominiums, row homes, single-family homes, open space and a parking structure.”

"FCA remains firmly convinced of the compelling, transformational rationale of a proposal that has been widely appreciated since it was submitted, the structure and terms of which were carefully balanced to deliver substantial benefits to all parties," officials said in announcing the deal’s collapse.
